German Chamomile Essential Oil is one of the most powerful healing oils available - especially in combination with Helichrysum. However, most German Chamomiles on the market only have a mild anti-inflammatory effect due to poor chemical composition. Chamazulene is not the main anti-inflammatory ingredient in German Chamomile. The chemical compound responsible for its outstanding anti-inflammatory effects is alpha-bisabolol (NOT alpha-bisabolol oxide). You must find the right chemotype for effectiveness.
If you're confused about which Chamomile to buy, consider this: German Chamomile (blue in color) is a better anti-inflammatory, while Roman Chamomile (light yellow in color) is a better anti-spasmodic. Roman Chamomile is preferred for babies. To learn more about diluting essential oils for children read How To Dilute Essential Oils.
